Lack of funds is a major factor militating against the growth of the NPFL, so says experienced tactician, Coach Samson David Unuanel. He said this in a recent online interview with news men.
Coach Samson Unuanel who is the current assistant manager with NPFL giants Kano Pillars also touched on a couple of other issues happening in Nigerian football.
The astute tactician talked about the current situations facing Kano Pillars this season which has seen the 4 time NPFL Champions swimming in the ugly waters of relegation and he also assured the ‘Sai Masu gida’ faithfuls that Pillars won’t be relegated this season “I am very very confident that Kano Pillars won’t be going on relegation, look at our team, we have a very good team and the boys are young and hungry, if not for the recent problem in Kano the story would have been different”.
When asked to explain why he is not always seated on the dugout during Pillars games he said ” what’s happening in Kano Pillars in terms of being at the dugout is very funny, this the first time am being in a team with several top coaches of high pedigree so we can’t all attend all games together, it has to be shuffled though am not finding it funny” he said.
When asked if the shuffling of coaches at the team could be a factor causing the recent poor run at Pillars, the Osun born German trained tactician went ahead to say ” you may be right because when you are not consistent in what you do their is bound to be lapses, so the shuffling of coaches may be a factor”.
Coach Samson Unuanel also said a few things about the anability of the Super Eagles to make it to the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, “from all indications we lost the ticket because we didn’t work so hard to earn the ticket, it’s obvious the players didn’t give their best, we need to develop our league so that our league can produce a good number of players that will be good enough to prosecute games for The Super Eagles, we need to put an end to our over reliance on foreign based players” he said.
